Just when I think things have calmed down...

...life gets "interesting" again, in the sense of the old Chinese curse.  My MIL's being taken to surgery in about 20 minutes to deal with a bowel obstruction due to a volvulus.  We won't know how much associated ischemia or necrosis there is until the surgeon gets into her abdomen....

********
To our friends back in our old stomping grounds:  She's at St. Francis.  I'll try to post updates as we know more.  Hubby's probably going to be heading that way tomorrow or Sunday (drive or fly? no clue), depending on how he's feeling and how the surgery goes.  Won't know anything on that for several hours yet.  (This would have to happen while he's sick.  The gods have a perverse sense of humor, and we are often the butt of their jokes.)  Technogeek won't be able to go -- classes resume Monday, and he *has* to be there all week or get dropped as a student.  Asinine policy, if you ask me - we don't know if they'll make exceptions for this kind of family emergency, and won't be able to find out until Monday morning, after Athos will have already left!  Squidboy's being kept updated as best we can, via text messages.  At least he's not still at Basic, so we don't have to run all communication through the Red Cross.
