Hmm, interesting times we live in

I just got off the phone with a friend who wishes to be known as "Kit".  He's had . . . an interesting life.  Some of his friends have been encouraging him to write a book about his experiences, which I think would be an excellent idea.  For now, though, maybe we can convince him to blog about some of what he's lived through - and I do mean live in the literal sense - and if we can, I'm going to link him here.

Hopefully he will forgive me if I go ahead and mention the middle-of-the-night knife attack that damn near killed him last year.  The good news is that (a) he lived; (b) he saved a young woman's life that night; and (c) the asshat responsible has been arrested.

Asshat is being sentenced tomorrow.

Once the civilian authorities have meted out their justice, the Army gets a crack at him.  See,  Asshat was on active duty when he made the attack.

And we're very curious as to why the local media has apparently been barred from reporting the sentencing.  (Or so Kit's been told.)

But I'd better let Kit tell the rest of the story in his own way, either on his own blog or here.  I just told you the boring parts.

***********
Just for the record, Kit himself is a veteran, and I don't think either one of us holds the Army per se responsible for the irrational actions of one of its members.  The vast majority of the brave men and women in military service are decent, honorable, law-abiding folks, and should not be judged on the actions of the aberrant few.  But there are some disturbing trends Kit's mentioned, regarding an upswing in the number of homicidal attacks being perpetuated by a certain rank of battlefield-promoted personnel.  Something is very wrong and needs to be fixed....
