Squidboy's home!

And it's really nice to have him back.  Of course, his brother worked all day yesterday, and by the time he'd gotten home, The Squid was gone -- he'd gone to surprise his girlfriend when she got off work.  Today he's home, but Techgeek left this morning and will be gone the rest of the week with his girlfriend Jezzi (also known as She Who I Consider To Be "Future Daughter") and her family.

Just like old times: Can't seem to get the two of them to be home at the same time so we can do anything as a family.  *sigh*  Oh, well, that's just the way it is.  They're grown and have their own lives and interests.  I probably should be grateful they save a little time for their Dad and me on occasion, huh?

The good news is, apparently he's not going to go to sea for the long deployment as quite soon as we thought he would, so maybe we'll be able to go visit him over a weekend before his boat leaves on The Cruise.  Yeah, yeah, I know, they have modern communications and all that, but the fact still remains that depending on where they are, and what they're doing, email from both directions may be cued up and waiting for delivery for weeks at a time.  Beats having NO communication when they're between ports, but it's still going to be rough on us back at home.  He was out of touch during boot camp, but we knew where he was and that he was (probably) (mostly) safe.  At sea?  I don't think I'll be sleeping particularly well.

Yea! Enjoy the time together that you and he get!

Skype. I have no idea how we survived without it! During Sean's last cruise we didn't have Skype but we had hotmail IM and yahoo...and I remember thinking about my parents complete lack of communication when my dad was in Vietnam. And she was pregnant and then had a newborn. Wowie. Can't even imagine.

Great that he's not shipping out this instant! And I spent enough time in the dessert--being underwater has got to beat sand in your undies any day!

Drop us a note if ever you're headed East...Norfolk and back is barely a day trip.

We would love to get together if we get in your area, Dori! That would be fun!

And I agree with you -- sand in the undies wouldn't be a whole lot of fun. I hope he stays in the sub fleet and quits making noises about volunteering to the sandbox once he gets his "fish"....

Hon, I may just take you up on that, IF it'd fit into your schedule. We're looking at driving Squidboy's truck to VA since he says he's getting sick of walking to and from work, 1/2 hour each way. He says it's a big-ass base and needs his vehicle ASAP. I'll let you know privately when we get dates figured out, and if it works out, I'd love to get to meet you in person! (Maybe we could meet halfway, or swing past your city on the way, rather than you having to drive down.)
