Probably 25 years ago (maybe longer), my then-boyfriend-now-husband and his buddies introduced me to a very funny country song. We actually had a copy of it, but the tape vanished into a black hole a few years later and we had absolutely no luck in finding a replacement.
Now, I don't know about you, but when I get stuck with an earworm, the only way to abort it is to actually listen to the song. Do you have any idea how difficult that is if there's no copy of the song available? Now imagine that the tune, along with snippets of the lyrics, randomly pop into your stream of consciousness off and on for 20 years. It's enough to make Carrie Nation swill gin, I tell you!
Cut to about a year ago. I'm browsing iTunes and, on a whim, look for the song. Wasn't there before, but lo! and behold, there it was. I downloaded that sucker just as fast as I could and took a great deal of pleasure in introducing both of my teenagers to it. Stupid me, I should have had a camera handy; the looks on their faces were priceless. Neither one could quite believe what I was playing for them. There's nothing like having dear old boring mom, that supposed paragon of virtue and taste, and censor of all things inappropriate, prove once and for all that she's even more weird than her kids could have suspected.
Flash forward to tonight: Guess what I found on YouTube, animated even. So shoo the kiddies out of the room, pour yourself a cold one, and enjoy!
One correction does need to be made. Whoever animated the video was mistaken. "The Rodeo Song" was recorded by Garry Lee and Showdown, not David Allen Coe.
