I have some unique friends. They're good-hearted, free thinkers, and the kind of people you'd want covering your back in a fight. That said, a lot of them also have a somewhat skewed sense of humor . . . which is one reason we get along so well. And they certainly keep life interesting! I never know what's going to show up in my email, voice mail, etc.
Like today. My cell phone beeped at me to let me know I had a new text message. Nothing odd there; could have been from any one of a dozen people. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but was exactly what I needed:
"Here's to the bull that roams the wood,
Doing all the heifers a ton of good.
If it wasn't for him, and his little red rod,
None of us here could eat steak, by god!"*
Courtesy of my buddy Draken. I don't know how he does it. We won't communicate for weeks at a time, then when I'm in need of some cheering up, he'll send something like that my way, just out of the blue. And I really needed it today; I've had a bad couple of days, what with injuries and computer problems. (Thanks, Bro'!)
