Squidboy graduates from submarine school next month and gets to come home on 10 days' leave! (Less his travel time, of course.) Then he's off to Norfolk to report to his new commander and get ready to head out to sea. I know this is what he wants to do, and he'll be a helluva lot safer on the sub than he would be in the Middle East, but I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the notion of my son,
who likes to sleep with the windows open, spending 6-8 months at a time
under water. Oh, I know they won't be submerged 24/7 for the whole time, but still!!!
Thank gods he'll have email access, if we can't talk to him every week we'll at least be able to send messages and pics, and maybe the occasional video message.
BTW, I'm sure you'll pardon me if I don't say exactly when his boat will be leaving or making port, or where they are at any given time. Some of the time he probably won't be able to tell us details anyway -- understandable, especially during war time! So we'll stick with generalities, and maybe the occasional misdirection, I think that'll be better all the way around.
